Norwegian Numbers

Number words, larger numbers, and ordinal forms in Norwegian.

Level 1

Numbers 0 to 10

Start with the small numbers. The game displays sju for 7 and en for 1.

  • Typed answers also accept the standard Bokmål form syv.
  • For the standalone number 1, en, én, and ett are accepted.

Build the base vocabulary

Small number words are the foundation for larger compounds. Learn the displayed form and recognize common accepted variants such as sju/syv.

Treat 11–20 as a core block

Several forms are not transparent combinations of smaller modern words. Retrieve elleve, tolv, tretten, and the rest as complete number words.

Tens and ones

Build two-digit numbers as tens + ones. The game writes the compound as one word.

Tens before ones

Modern Norwegian builds 21–99 as tens + ones and writes the result as one word: sytti + tre → syttitre.

Use hundre, tusen, and og to read larger numbers in chunks.

Read large numbers in chunks

Identify thousands, hundreds, tens, and ones. Norwegian may use og before the final smaller part, especially after hundreds.

Level 12

Ordinal numbers

Ordinal numbers tell position. Learn the short base forms first, then reuse the ones-place ordinal when building 21st-29th.

  • Some stems change: seks → sjette, not “sekste”.
  • Join the parts into one word: tjue + sjette → tjuesjette (26th).
  • Digits normally take a period (22.), but the game accepts either 22 or 22. for tjueandre.
