Welcome

Hello and welcome to Norwegian.app!

This website aims to eventually gather everything you might need to learn Norwegian. This is a work in progress, so for now, I have three main features in place

1. Resource Collection

I've spent the last year collecting all the resources that could be useful for anyone learning Norwegian. In total, there are over 200 movies, TV series, artists, podcasts, YouTube channels, and much more (all in Norwegian, of course). Feel free to take a look and let me know what you think!

Find movies, TV series, artists, podcasts, YouTube channels, and much more to help you learn Norwegian.

2. Word List

Which words should I learn first?

It should be easy to figure out what words to start with, so I use a little data-science to compile a rather large list of the 25,000 most used Norwegian words.

Click here to go to Word List

A list of the 25,000 most used Norwegian words, sorted by frequency of use and categorized by topic.

Wordlist Features:

  • Click on a word to see more details about it.
  • Categories - There's 1000 categories you can sort the words by, use the buttons on top of the table.
  • Check off known words (requires you to have created a user account). This way, you can easily focus on new words and see your progress.
  • AI translations - The website using ChatGPT to provide translations in 10 languages. This is a useful, but unfortunately not an always correct tool.

3. Articles

If you look to the left (or in the hamburger menu at the top if you're on mobile), you should see an overview of different topics that might be relevant for those learning Norwegian and perhaps living or planning to live in Norway.

This list is currently quite short, and the content is still a bit incomplete, but I'll be working on this over the next couple of weeks.

4. (Bonus) Profile

It's possible to create your own profile by logging in with an email address. This will allow you to save your progress on your word list, and eventually, I'll make it possible to see an overview of all others learning Norwegian on this website.

Future Plans:

  1. I will go through the word list and make corrections where I find errors or receive feedback about mistakes.
  2. I will write 5+ short stories and add them to this website.
  3. I will copy my "En / Ei / Et" article game from Norskappen, so it can be played with all the nouns in the word list.
  4. I will also copy the "Preposition Game" and add it to the website.
